LASER
The initial word Laser (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) means light amplification by stimulated emission of light.
The light of the laser is produced by a particular process from the device and then is leaded to the dentist’s hand-piece, serving as a tool for Dental treatment.
Because of the laser’s energy type and its wavelength, there is a direct antimicrobial activity as well.
The Laser Systems implemented in our Dental Clinic are the Laser ErYag and the Diode Laser. The Laser ErYag is designed for applications on hard tissues such as teeth and bone. Their wavelength is 2940nm. This radiation has the capacity to get absorbed by the water molecules which are located between the components of dental substances. The water molecules are heated and evaporated violently, are detonated and lure the hydroxyapatit particles with them (key components of dental hard tissues).
That thermo-mechanical response has a great efficiency and thus very little energy is left to cause warming of the tooth. However, sprinkling of water is used in order to control the temperature.
On the other hand soft tissue application of the Laser ErYag is limited because it doesn’t ensure haemostasis. In that case Diode Laser is used, with wavelengths 810, 940 and 980 nm.
The optical fibers of Diode Lasers gives the dentist a useful tool, which allows precise incisions with simultaneous haemostasis of small capillaries and controlled cauterization as well.
Dental Science has many areas where the application of laser devices is starting to have general use. In our Dental Clinic the uses of laser are the following:
Laser used for dental surgery(fillings), for the Periodontal treatment, for the endodontics(root canal treatment), at the cosmetic surgery(bleaching) and at oral surgery as well.
The initials of the word Laser-Light Amplification by stimulated emission of Radiation means light reinforcement by forced emission of radiation. In general, when the Laser’s light comes in contact with the tissue, we have reflection from the tissue, diffusion in it, transmission through the tissue and absorption from the tissue. The dental Laser systems which are applied in our clinic concerns the Laser Er Yag and the Diode Laser.
The Laser Er Yag is planed for applications on hard tissues, teeth and bones. The wave length of 2,94mm has the attribute of being highly absorbed from the molecules of H2O which are being located between the various components of dental tissues. These components getting warm, evaporated violently, blow up carry away the ingredients of hydroxiapatity, the ingredient of hard dental tissue.
This thermomechanical reaction is very effective and there is little energy left to provide tooth temperature increase.
Nevertheless water supply is used in order to control the temperature increase which has proved that offers sufficient protection at tooth pulp. We remove the tissues with great exactness and completely painless for the patient. The micro-explosions are restricted on the tissue we want to take off without influence to the tissues near-by.
Absolutely suitable for the preparation of tooth cavity for fillings the cavity is sterilized, the Snear Laser is taken off and provoke small inaction which increase the restraining of the filling.
As regards the Er Yag Laser applications are restricted because of the lack of haemostatic. The wave length of 810, 940, 980mm of Diode Laser are used to remove soft tissues, providing a “touch” feeling to the doctor. With the Diode Laser we achieve precise incisors with simultaneous haemostasis of the tiny capillary vessels and the very small blood veins, controlled cauterization and sublimation of the tissue. It is suitable for impaired periodontical tissues and for the sterilization of the root canals during an endodontic therapy. It is suitable for teeth whitening application because with the combination of the H2O2 we are able to provide white teeth to our patients, from the first appointment, totally secure and harmless for the enamel.
